Army WEst Point Lacrosse
2025 Update
As each new year begins, your Army Lacrosse Alumni leadership is committed to providing everyone associated with Army Lacrosse an annual update of our organization, its purpose, key accomplishments, a look forward, and most importantly strengthening the ties, support and communication among those who love Army Lacrosse.
Please take a minute to review this 2025 update.
The ALA is an informal volunteer organization. We are not registered, do not collect dues, do not have a treasurer, and have no paid staff. It’s just a few volunteers making all this happen. That means employing your talent is essential, so if you can step up and help at any time please do.
Our Mission is: To conduct unique and valuable activities for the benefit of the Army Lacrosse Program and Alumni to honor and preserve the attributes of Family, Toughness and Tradition.
Our Honorary Chairman is the oldest living graduate. The first was COL(R) Guy Troy (#45 ’46) who passed away on his 100th birthday.
The second was Dr. Mike Dowe (#53 ’50) who passed this year at 97.
The current Honorary Chairman is Tom Stumm #8 ’51 who was featured in the Sept ’25 newsletter.
The current ALA Co-Chairs are Rick Bifulco (#24 ’76), Jim Pappafotis (#29 ’78), Ken Dahl (#13 ’82) and Frank Giordano (#19 ’83). A new slate of co-chairs will assume leadership after this season on 1 June 2026. They are Brian Mennes (#26 ’88), Chris Prentice (#32 ’92), DJ Beil (#30 ’98) and Garrett Thul (#9 ’13). ALA General Counsel is Bill Sardella (#9 ’82).
The past four seasons of Army Men’s Lacrosse have been the most successful in over 50 years. The coaches and players deserve all the credit, yet Coach Alberici has made it clear that the ALA has had a major impact. A legion of loyal lacrosse alumni and family have mobilized to provide unprecedented moral and financial support to the program. We are also doing a better job of taking care of each other.
There are several committees that serve you:
Merchandise is handled by Sean White, parent of Brady White (#47 ’27). You can purchase high quality shirts, jackets, hats, shorts, pants etc. at this Merchandise link which appears on the left side of our website armylax.com . 10% of all sales is returned to the team through the parents to help offset costs of routine player support.
Communications is led by COL Paul Evangelista (#23 ’96). Paul looks after armylax.com (680 members), and monitors our presence on LinkedIn (507 members), Facebook (281 members), Instagram (107 members), and X. The BEST place for information, updates and to connect is armylax.com so please register as a member and visit often.
Events is led by Frank Giordano (#19 ’83). The big annual event is our hosted tailgate which in ‘26 is Navy at Michie Stadium on 11 April. Mike Hanna (#15 ’08) has stepped to lead it this year and give Frank a well-earned respite. Alumni and parents tailgate together at all home and away games. Coach Alberici appreciates this since it makes it easier for him and the team to visit after the game. If you are going to attend a game, home or away, check armylax.com that week for tailgate details. ALA is coordinating Military Appreciation Days for the Michigan game in Atlanta and UNC game in Chapel Hill. In ’24 these events and the ’25 Mercer game in Naples FL drew huge crowds to create what felt like Army home games. On the agenda are parachutists jumping in the game ball, color guard and vocalist for the National anthem, an Apache flyover, static displays of military hardware, recruiters, mass enlistment of new recruits and lacrosse VIP recognitions.
Mentoring and networking is led by Paul Cino (#3 ’83) for three years now. We are looking for someone who graduated more recently to take over so Paul can take a knee and drink some water. This is an informal effort to do all we can to identify folks in transition and connect them with alumni who can help. Those departing the Army can find help from other lacrosse alumni who may be in that sector or location. This also applies to those still serving as they move from one post to another. We’ve been able to help quite a few alumni already so take advantage of this network. If you are moving/transitioning or want to help those who are, contact Paul or any of us.
Newsletter is led by Neil Hamill (#44 ’81), DJ Beil (#30 ’98), Mark Albe (#30 ’82) and Roger Wieland (#20 ’80) . We have published 15 quarterly newsletters, and each one is better than the previous edition. It is YOUR newsletter so PLEASE provide input for content and ideally draft a short article and submit it to the team above. We prefer to edit and publish the newsletter not to write it, so send in content on anything you think is worth sharing with fellow alumni. We are always looking for feedback so let us know what you think.
Hall of Fame Nominating Committee is led by Sonny Uberti (#33 ’83) and Jose Olivera (#27 ’78). They will ensure the ALA always has one or more nominations before the Army Sports Hall of Fame selection committee to maximize recognition of the many deserving candidates young and old.
Local “Chapters” of the ALA are popping up across the country and are currently active in Colorado Front Range (Frank Eich, #20 ’72), Savannah/Coastal GA (Chris Auclair, #37 ’95), Fort Liberty/Southern Pines, NC (Pat Mulholland, #50 ’11), Fort Moore/Auburn, AL ( Bryan Lehman, #27 ’22 and Greg Doepke, #3 ’71), Central Texas (Kevin Capra, #8 ’95) There is a large number of ALA in D.C/Maryland/Virginia and we need someone to step up and organize a happy hour or watch party.
Here’s Your Help is led by Ed McGuire #5 ’92, John Walker #29 ’06, Jeff Bryan #20 ’04, Marko Kostovic #5 ’05 and Adam Silva #4 ’93. Life can present us with significant challenges, and when it does, let’s acknowledge that some of the strongest relationships we have are with our Army Lacrosse teammates. Reach out to those you have not heard from in a while and check in on your brothers. If you are seeking support, or know someone who is, please look at the resources at this link Here’s Your Help which appears on the left side of the top page at armylax.com
Endowment Committee is led by an Executive Committee of 14 alumni and one parent of a former player. Hyperlinks to their email are provided at the end of the following update.
The purpose of the endowment is to provide critical resources to Coach Alberici that supplement his base budget so he can remain competitive against much larger and far wealthier programs in the top tier of Division 1 lacrosse.
Thanks to your generosity we are humbled to announce that we have exceeded Coach Alberici’s Fund-One goal of raising $5million. As of 12/31/2025 total net assets for the endowment are $5,299,624. This means that Coach know has the resources to fund in perpetuity the four major requirements that defined Fund-One: A Director of Operations, an Expanded Team Roster, Team Travel by Air for One Game per year, and modest supplement to assistant coaches, particularly in years when there is no summer camp as happened with COVID in ’20,’21 and the massive rainstorm in ’23.
In four years, the endowment grew to over 1,300 individual donors from all 50 states, D.C., and the Virgin Islands. Roughly 750 are alumni and 550 donors are non-alumni representing parents, family, coaches, doctors, trainers, ex-players, and friends.

Our elite competitors routinely add top players via the transfer portal and their rosters are stacked with multiple graduate student players. They benefit from the Naming, Imaging and Likeness scheme and are now able to pay their players directly because of the House vs NCAA settlement. Army has none of these “advantages” and yet finished #10 in the Coaches poll with 7 All-Americans. For the team to achieve such success the old-fashioned way tells you this is a program worth investing in.
Coach Alberici is launching Fund-Two, an effort to raise another $5million to keep pace with the rapidly accelerating financial landscape of Top 20 Lacrosse. You will hear more about that soon from Adam Silva and the Endowment Committee.
Please do what you can for the Army Lacrosse Team through your generosity to the Endowment. You can find more information to include the Top Ten Ways to Donate at our website https://www.awplaxendowment.com/
If you have any questions or input, please contact one of your Endowment Committee Decade Representatives.
